THE GIVEN DESTINY

An original idea of German philosopher Frederich Nietzsche – the Ubermensch is human with a mind so advanced he can shape his own destiny without the need for God – always inspires me. The ethnicity, nationality, race, and sex of a human being are not what he/she chooses. Those qualities are given when we were born from our mothers’ womb. To portrait an individual who constantly thinks about those qualities, I created the faces by using different materials–wood, wire and acrylics. The faces emit the bright energy even though the faces are stuck in the given destiny. Through this lamp, I want to demonstrate my beliefs that people are bound to work out their own destinies.
